About the Position:
This position is located at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. Fort Buchanan is located by Guaynabo City, Puerto Rico. It is near the capital of San Juan. Puerto Rico boasts fabulous ocean views, tropical weather, and lush green mountains. The island is approximately 100 miles by 35 miles and similar in size to Connecticut.
Duties
Assists with maintaining facilities of the schools.
Demonstrates proper work methods to other laborers.
Ensures materials, supplies and tools are available for work orders.
Reports to supervisor on status and progress of work.
Confirms tools are properly used and that safety equipment is used accordingly.
Schedules work assignments and prepares work orders and requisitions for cleaning supplies.
Requirements
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- Appointment subject to a suitability /fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
- This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Must possess a valid Puerto Rico and Federal Government Drivers License and must be qualified to operate motor vehicles up to and including 2-1/2 ton capacity.
- This position may include assignments to first or second shift.

Physical Effort: The leader works both inside and outside of the school buildings and maintenance shop. The position requires considerable standing, stooping, walking, climbing on ladders and scaffolds which require him/her to work overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Arm work is considerable when washing walls, Venetian blinds, chalk boards, changing light fixtures and replacing ballasts. The leader is required to lift objects weighing between 50 and 100 pounds.
Working Conditions:Some work at this position is done inside a maintenance shop where the leader is subject to cuts from hand or powered tools and fumes from lawn cutting equipment and cleaning materials. The leader frequently works outside in all types of weather including rain and extreme heat. He/she works on scaffolding and high ladders and rooftops when painting, changing electrical fixtures and cleaning walls and windows.
