Incumbent is an Aviation Safety Assistant (Office Automation) (OA) in a Flight Standards field office. Provides administrative, semi-technical, and clerical related support to the supervisor, or manager, Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs), and Administrative Officer.

Duties

Processes FAA issued airman certificates such as an FAA designated representative, mechanics, repairmen, flight engineers, and pilots. Interviews applicants to determine qualifications for non-complex certificates. Processes FAA authorizations such as inspection authorization, aircrew program designee, aerobatic competency, etc. Processes FAA issues operator and air agency certificates such as air carrier, repair stations, and approved schools. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness, consistency of information, and assures correction, if required. Responsible for notifying staff when changes to directives relating to accidents, incidents, enforcement processing, and airmen/operator certification are implemented to ensure the latest information is available to everyone. Responsible for processing temporary airman certification files for certificates issued by designated examiners. Examines applications and supporting documents for completeness consistency of information, and fulfillment of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) requirements. Assures correction, if required. Monitors and tracks returned files. Supports the Designated Written Test Examiner (DWTE) program by assisting with the orientation and training of new examiners, assisting with the required annual and periodic training as necessary. Has responsibility for security, accountability and destruction of question selection sheets, sorting, assembling and furnishing written test examiners with test materials, and following up to ensure corrective action is taken if necessary. Conducts FAA written examinations by assembling and distributing test materials and by preparing necessary supporting documentation. Monitors written test examinations. Research appropriate handbooks, collects information, organizes material pertinent to meetings and training sessions such as pre-certification, examiner renewal, inspector authorization, and flight examiner and written test examiner indoctrinations. Conducts written test examiner training sessions when necessary. Assists with interpreting and implementing newly modified agency directives relating to accident, incident, enforcement processing, and airmen/operator certification file processing. Determines necessary action and notification to assure staff is aware of latest changes. Answers inquiries from and advises organization personnel regarding the preparation of technical work.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Typing Proficiency: You must self-certify on your application that you are able to type 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors. Failure to indicate this on your application will eliminate you from consideration.
  • Security Requirement: Low Risk (1). This position requires completion and favorable adjudication of a background investigation prior to appointment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FG-7 level:You must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG-6 or FV-D (FG-5/6) level.
