These positions are located in Blue Ridge Parkway, in the Maintenance and Engineering Division. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. Duties

Career Seasonal Positions: These are Career-Seasonal positions and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal positions includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectees will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for Blue Ridge Parkway is March through October, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. Employee performs a variety of park maintenance and repair duties on buildings, structures, facilities, roads, and grounds. Makes repairs to buildings and structures. Prepares surfaces for painting by sanding; paints ceilings walls and doors. Repairs and replaces standard plumbing fittings, clears simple stoppages, replaces washers in faucets. Replaces fuses, light bulbs. Removes trash and debris from roadway and road sites; operates heavy riding and walking-type lawn mowers, cuts trees with chainsaw. The Blue Ridge Parkway extends 469 miles along the crest of the southern Appalachian Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia between two eastern national parks - Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains. Alleghany County, North Carolina - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Bluffs Maintenance Area, which is located near Laurel Springs, North Carolina. Laurel Springs is located approximately 10 miles from Sparta, North Carolina and approximately 15 miles from West Jefferson, North Carolina.
