The ability to do the work of an Electrician without more than normal supervision: Qualifying experience includes: working independently as an electrician; utilizing knowledge of electrical theory and National Electrical Code requirements; installing, modifying, repairing and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment; using instruments and tools common to the electrical trade; reading and following wiring diagrams and blueprints to install or repair electrical equipment; using a variety of hand and power tools; and utilizing testing equipment. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in areas where it usually dirty, dusty, and greasy; outside in bad weather; and in areas where it is hot and noisy. Some of the work is performed in service tunnels and under buildings where space is limited, requiring the incumbent to work in cramped positions and in areas where he may be exposed to asbestos dust from old insulation jackets on steam pipes and steam equipment. All work with electricity is inherently hazardous, presenting the risks of shocks and burns. This requires the incumbent to be always alert to these hazards. Adequate safety procedures, training and personal protective equipment are provided to make the work environment as safe as possible.
