Duties

This position is located in the Fee Collection Branch of the Division of Visitor and Resource Protection at Rocky Mountain National Park and is supervised by the Supervisory Recreation Fee Specialist. The incumbent serves as a supervisor in the fee program and will perform the full range of supervisory duties such as: hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, and auditing. There will be a great deal of contact with the visiting public. They will use their skills and knowledge to resolve issues that arise in the operation. Incumbent will be responsible for directing activities of staff who support the park's visitor transportation system but will also work in the park's entrance station during the winter months. Subordinate employees collect and account for fees, check reservations into campsites, disseminate information, provide traffic control, and provide resource orientation to visitors. Supervisory responsibilities include planning and scheduling work, providing advice, counseling on both work and administrative matters, resolving employee complaints, effecting minor disciplinary actions, interviewing applicants and recommending selections for positions in the unit, and identifying and providing training and developmental needs of employees. This position is a permanent, career seasonal position, that includes the same benefits as a year-round position but does not provide work on a year-round basis. This position is guaranteed to work at least 6 months, but not more than 50 weeks per year. The typical recurring paid employments is from approximately March to December, and you will be in a non-pay status for 2-6 weeks between January and February. Area Information: Established on January 29, 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park is a living showcase of the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains. The park embraces 415 square miles of pristine, uninhabited mountains in north-central Colorado and, as such, is one of the most spectacular, yet easily accessible high mountain areas in North America. With elevations ranging from 7,800 feet at park headquarters to 14,259 feet at the summit of Longs Peak, the park has glacier-sculptured valleys, rugged gorges, alpine lakes, and vast areas of alpine tundra. Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved continuous road in the United States, stays above tree line for 11 miles and reaches 12,183 feet in elevation. Elk, deer, bighorn sheep, moose, coyotes, and smaller animals are found throughout the park, as well as threatened and endangered species, such as the Greenback Cutthroat Trout and Boreal Toad. Due to the park's easy accessibility to the Front Range communities of Colorado, Rocky experiences over 4 million visitors annually. This position is located on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. There are boundless outdoor activities including hiking, fishing, boating, biking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and downhill ski resorts, 2 Nordic ski resorts, and hot springs within 40 miles of Grand Lake. In the summer and fall, Park Headquarters, in Estes Park, is 50 miles away via Trail Ridge Road. In the winter and spring Headquarters is 3 hours away by all-weather roads. The nearest community is Grand Lake, Colorado, which has a post office, restaurants, 2 small grocery stores, shops, etc. Schools are located in Granby, Colorado, about 15 miles away, and are provided bus transportation from Grand Lake to Granby. Denver, Colorado which has a major airport, cultural events, and several professional sports teams is a two-hour drive away. Government housing may be available on a temporary or permanent basis. Housing assignments are made through a bid process.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/01/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualification by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: leading or supervising a fee collection operation, in a park or similar setting, to include or assisting with hiring, scheduling and managing others involved in fee collection and visitor orientation programs and working with technology and software used in revenue and fee management; handling, tracking and remittance of monies; and auditing fee collection and remittance procedures. You must include hours per week worked on your resume. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
