The Pittsburgh Regional Health System is seeking a Full Time Permanent CRNP (IMPACT). The Interdisciplinary Medical Preoperative Assessment Consultation and Treatment Clinic (IMPACT) is located in the Surgical Service Line at the University Drive facility in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Duties
This CRNP position is located in the Surgical Service Line, Interdisciplinary Medical Preoperative Assessment Consultation and Treatment Clinic (IMPACT) at the University Drive facility in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The IMPACT CRNP is responsible for covering all available tours of duty during IMPACT Clinic operating hours.
The CRNP is accountable to the Nurse Manager, IMPACT Clinic.
The CRNP works under the clinical supervision of the physician preceptor.
The CRNP practices within their approved privileges as Full Practice Authority practitioners, guided and directed by the physician preceptors.
The IMPACT CRNP will maintain certification in BLS.
The nurse will demonstrate clinical competency in completion of core and practice specific procedures/competencies according to the competency checklist for IMPACT Clinic.
The IMPACT Clinic provides pre-operative assessment, patient education and patient optimization to the surgical patients who are evaluated in the IMPACT Clinic.
The CRNP is accountable for promoting patient safety, continuity /quality of care and general well-being of the patient. The CRNP collaborates with physicians, CRNPs/PAs, nurses and ancillary services to provide this care.
Core Duties:
Effectively utilizes all aspects of the nursing process to ensure optimization of a surgical candidate throughout the entire IMPACT evaluation.
Practices within the guidelines of the policies, standard operating procedures, and standards of care relative to the continuity of care for pre-operative surgical candidates in the outpatient surgical setting.
Performs histories and physicals and patient assessments as live face to face interview, Clinical Video Teleconferencing (CVT) telephone assessment/chart review and E-Consult (chart review) and VVC.
Effectively triages consults based on defined IMPACT protocols.
Performs all necessary documentation and for patients undergoing surgical risk evaluation including recommendations for medication management, ancillary testing, consultative services.
Manages the patient throughout the IMPACT optimization process and follows-up on pending requirements for completion of the optimization process.
Proficient in completion of E-consult of designated peri-operative patients.
Demonstrate scope of knowledge base in delivery of thorough and all-inclusive surgical pre-op teaching.
Provide care per, Interdisciplinary Medical Preoperative Assessment Consultation and Treatment (IMPACT) Clinic Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Proficiently uses multiple computer systems to access remote date to ensure all pertinent medical history is considered.
Recognizes and responds promptly and appropriately to emergency situations.
Effectively communicates with appropriate nursing, surgical, anesthesia and interdisciplinary team members. Provides SBAR communication for safe patient hand-off.
Participates in unit specific and hospital wide in-service training, facility teaching conferences, quality improvement and research activities.
Effectively collaborates with the IMPACT Team, including those performing telework, to ensure efficient clinic flow.
Other duties include, but are not limited to answering the telephone, paging medical providers, entering orders, completing encounters, requesting medical information from outside facilities, cleaning non-critical reusable medical equipment.

Work Schedule: Full Time: Work Schedule can be five 8 hour shifts or four 10 hour shifts. 6:30am to 5pm for 10 hour tours and 8am to 4:30pm for 8 hour tours.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Master's or Doctoral Degree from a program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission (ACEN-Formerly NCLAC) or the Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Nurse Practitioners must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected.
Preferred Experience and Certifications - 2-3 years of Nursing experience.
Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience.
Note regarding MSN degrees: If your MSN was obtained via a Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration, a BSN is not required.

Physical Requirements: Physical demands include repetitive body movements including the following: frequent reaching, standing, walking, and lifting of equipment and/or patients to provide patient care. This position requires extension of the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction including above or below shoulder level, during the provision of patient care, including retrieval of needed equipment, supplies and to make contact with the patient. This position requires the maintenance of an upright position to perform duties associated with patient care. This position is typically non-sedentary, and frequently involves being in the standing position. This position requires moving about accomplish tasks, such as assisting with patient ambulation and moving one patient area to the next. This position requires the raising of objects from a lower position to a higher position or the movement of objects horizontally position to position. Lifting may be done to move a patient from one location to the next, i.e.- from the exam table to the chair, and in the movement of equipment or supplies.
