This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and analyzing accounting of annual and multi-year appropriations within the JS.
Duties
As a FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT ANALYST at the GS-0501-12/13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Provides expert advice to senior managers and others on all phases of the budgeting process, including formulation, preparation, execution, and accounting.
Lead efforts that pertain to the planning, programming, formulating, presenting, and justifying of accounting records, budgetary reports, and other financial-related data.
Operates and monitors the established JS integrated financial management system, Defense Agencies Initiative (DAI) to ensure transactions arc coded and entered in a formal appropriate to the United States standard general ledger and the standard financial information structure.
Ensures JS Comptroller Office business practices comply with applicable fiscal law, financial management regulations, DOD directives, Chairman of the Join! Chiefs of Staff instructions, and JS instructions.
Reconciles transactional data using available DAI and Defense Finance and Accounting Service reports.
Conducts financial, budgetary and other analyses; prepares, reconciles, and analyzes financial statements; and prepares reports, charts, graphs, and other communications for review by senior managers.
Analyses complex and voluminous financial and budgetary information, including data with contrary information and recommends resource requirements when the funds involved are not clearly defined and subject to negotiation.

Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS 12 , if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:
Providing expert advice to senior managers and others on all phases of the budgeting process, including formulation, preparation, execution, and accounting
Operating and monitoring the established integrated financial management system, Defense Agencies Initiative (DAI)
Reviewing and monitoring assigned operating programs to control funding balances.
You may qualify at the GS 13 , if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service as listed below:
Leading efforts that pertain to the planning, programming, formulating, presenting, and justifying of accounting records, budgetary reports, and other financial-related data
Reviewing and monitoring assigned operating programs to control funding balances
Leading analytic analyses efforts and prepares cost-of-war and monthly JS budget execution reports.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
