About the position: This position will be assigned to the EAGLES REST INN on Dover Air Force Base.
Purpose of this position is to perform building maintenance duties throughout the lodging complex. Also to maintain grounds around lodging facilities to include sidewalk, parking, grass, and planted areas.
Duties
Performs spot inspections of lodging buildings and structures to determine the nature and extent of repairs required. Such inspections involve the carpentry, plumbing and painting trades, with some minor electrical work. Determines whether the repair/maintenance work needed is within job capabilities of the unit; if not, reports findings to supervisor. Works on self-help projects that are intended to improve lodging facilities.
Inspects plumbing fixtures, fittings and pipes to determine if parts or connections are defective by observing leaks or other malfunctions. Repairs ineffective water service/leaky pipes by loosing, tightening or adjusting valves. Repairs or replaces defective hose bibcock, faucets, water cut-off valves, flush valves, lavatory and bathroom fixtures, strainers and floor drains. Replaces mounting brackets and supports for basin, laundry traps and drinking fountains. Cleans stopped up or sluggish drain lines.
Inspects lodging interiors for sticking doors and windows, weather stripping, broken or cracked glass, loose hinges and door locks, and insecure molding or trim. Performs maintenance and repairs discrepancies noted above such as re-hangs doors; trims sticking doors and windows; replaces broken, split, or rotten interior trim; replaces broken or cracked glass using putty and glaziers points. Inspects exterior structures for deterioration of painted surfaces; for broken, cracked, rotten, warped siding; and report findings to supervisor. Paints and/or wall papers interior surfaces as required using brushes, rollers, and other standard equipment of the trade.
Repairs and/or replace light switches or sockets, bulbs, fluorescent fixtures, starters, ballasts, tubes and outlets.
Maintains adequate supplies for normal performance of mission. Takes inventory and assures essential supplies are reordered in time to prevent work stoppages. Takes all equipment to proper shops for repairs as required. Submits requests to supervisor for new equipment as needed. Insures that material and supplies are properly and safely stored, protected, and maintained. Enforces and follows good housekeeping, safety and fire regulation.
Uses various hand and power tools/equipment as manual and/or power drills and saws, braces and bits, hammers, chisels, wrenches, screw drivers, key machine, augers, snow blower, etc., in accomplishing stated tasks/jobs. Maintains written or computer generated records of maintenance and all inspections performed for local requirements.
May be required to operate any of the lodging motor vehicles to include pick-up trucks, sedans, step-vans, etc., for carrying passengers and/or cargo. Operates vehicles up to and including 1 ½ ton to transport equipment and supplies from one location to another.
Performs other related duties as assigned, to include training other employees in the use of various lodging fund equipment, its operation, and how to make minor repairs.
CONTROLS OVER WORK: Works under the direction of the maintenance worker supervisor who outlines and oversees the overall area of responsibility, makes verbal and/or written assignments personally and is available to resolve unusual difficulties encountered. Work is accomplished in accordance with standard trade practices and verbal and/or coordination with specialized trades and crafts personnel in Civil Engineering. Work is evaluated through timely accomplishment of tasks, correct functioning of items repaired, and the overall appearance of facilities.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- Must be able to actively stand, bend, stoop, and work in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time.
- Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
- Must have the ability to use a variety of common hand and power tools, and have experience in reading schematics and diagrams.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have general repair and maintenance experience in a variety of areas including common household plumbing, painting and plastering, electrical, and carpentry.
Must have specialized experience in the field of electrical/electronics or similar maintenance, which required the use of test equipment such as multi-meters, voltmeters, or other similar test equipment.
Must have the ability to use a variety of common hand and power tools, and have experience in reading schematics and diagrams.
Must be able to actively stand, bend, stoop, and work in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time.
Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical, and possess a valid driver's license.
Must satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
