These positions serve as a Public Affairs Specialist at Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 12 within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) The duty location options are Westchester, IL and Milwaukee, WI. These positions are responsible for promoting and coaching outreach in sharing best practices, planning, and conducting a comprehensive outreach program, developing outreach plans, and generating events in partnership with VISN 12 medical facility Public Affairs Officers.
Duties

Duties include but may not be limited to the following:
Advises senior level management on development of outreach campaigns, communication plans and strategies.
Plans, develops, and produces a variety of materials and publications including print, visual, Web-based, multimedia, and video materials to convey information about the VA to a variety of stakeholders.
Serves as a content manager of VISN 12's Internet and Intranet.
Serves as agency spokesperson in the absence of the Public Affairs Officer.
Serves as a VISN point of contact for the media and public information inquiries and as the liaison with other medical centers, central office, and veteran organizations in the areas of public information and community relations.
Plans, initiates, and implements comprehensive public affairs activities to enhance the understanding of the VA's programs among the general public and specialized groups and organizations.
Coordinates the production and dissemination of information, material, and, where necessary, works with contractors who design, write, or produce materials for the VISN 12 and its medical facilities.
May respond, or prepare response for the director, to detailed explanations for negative comments made about the VA activities or performance particularly in urgent, sensitive situations.
Prepares and updates brochures on the VA, its personnel, and activities.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Qualifications
To qualify for these positions, you must meet the below requirement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes serving as a facility spokesperson; responding to media inquiries; designing and implementing strategic communications, preparing briefing packages and slide presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work is generally sedentary with walking required during visits and tours of Medical Centers. Flexibility is required to accommodate events and activities occurring in other than normal duty hours. Mobility s required in terms of staging and assisting staff with equipment and other required materials.
