Duties
This Security Specialist position is located in Security and Administrative Services (SAS), Enterprise Support (ES) within Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to:
Evaluates and complies with procedures for responding to security incidents, transmitting classified documents and handling/accountability of highly sensitive information.
Establishes and evaluates existing physical security measures and systems (i.e., intrusion detection systems and devices, safes and other storage containers and access control systems) to protect and prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, materials and information.
Provides interpretation of policy related personnel, physical security and communication security procedures and requirements to ensure compliance.
May serve as a Team Lead for security projects involving serious breaches of physical, personnel, information and communication security protocols and requirements.
Ensures the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) is monitored including protecting Classified National Security Information such as electronic data and media.
Manages and ensures accessibility of all COMSEC infrastructures, applications and data services and capabilities across the agency enterprise
The major duties described above reflect the full performance level of this position. Typically, the lower Pay Band (Pay Band H) performs the same duties but will receive more guidance and training; and/or projects/work assignments may be less complex.
Qualifications
To qualify for the SV-H Pay Band (equivalent to GS-12), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-G or GS-11 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as:
Experience applying federal policies, applicable legislation, Executive Orders, and other regulatory directives for one or more of the following security disciplines: Physical Security (PHYSEC), Personnel Security (PERSEC), Information Security (INFOSEC), Access Controls or Communication Security (COMSEC).
Conducting federal access control (i.e., systems, facilities, information) in order to prevent unauthorized use of sensitive areas or systems.

Experience monitoring or safeguarding sensitive information (e.g., sensitive security materials or systems) in order to avoid compromise or unauthorized disclosure.
Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
