The Kansas City VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for the Accounting Technician. These duties encompass resolving system issues, classifying accounting transactions, maintaining and reconciling accounts; closing accounts and preparing reports and statements; and analyzing accounting data; and examining accounts.

Duties

Balances and reconciles reports, statements, summaries and trial balances with supporting accounting data on dally/weekly/monthly/yearly basis constituting a complete reconciliation. Receives and reviews a wide variety of obligation documents to Include purchase orders, contracts, travel orders and similar documents for obligation against appropriated funds. Reviews documents accuracy and regulatory compliance to ensure they are authorized In accordance with regulations, charged to the applicable appropriation and that funds are available to cover obligation. Reconciles and reviews all transaction accounting classifications to ensure they were input property into the various accounting systems. Verifies input to computer to close accounts and provide financial statements by abstracting data from a variety of source documents. Analyzes accounting reports, records and supporting documents of the installation and initiates adjustment action as may be required. Reviews accounting data to determine the accuracy of supporting information provided. Analyzes, codes, and processes all types of accounting transactions involving various types of funds insuring the accuracy and completeness of information provided in accordance with regulatory requirements. Coordinates with appropriate office on edit master file changes for Account Processing Codes, Customer Numbers, and Elements of Resource. Researches, analyzes and corrects all of the facility's accountability transaction edit errors on exception listings that pertain to assigned program directors. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/09/2023 Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
