This position is in the Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO), Aircraft Operations Center (AOC), Light Aircraft Branch, with two vacancies in Lakeland, FL. Duties

As an Engineering Technician (Aerospace), you will perform the following duties: Assist in scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, special, hourly and conditional inspections, component replacement and operational checks on King Air Series 300 and/or DHC-6-300 aircraft for adequacy and completeness of work, ensuring airworthiness of aircraft. Provide assistance in troubleshooting, and resolving discrepancies involving the King Air Series 300 and/or DHC-6-300 airframe, powerplant and installed equipment to assure proper function of all components and systems. Provide support in the assessment of quality control requirements such as material quality, mission system performance, aircraft readiness, and equipment performance. Ensure all necessary paper documents, forms and logs are correctly completed as well as electronic logbook entries prior to, and after maintenance is performed.

This handbook is available on the Office of Personnel Management's website located at: https://www.opm.gov/policy Physical Requirements: The Engineering Technician performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, inspections, repairs, modifications and adjustments: In hard-to-reach places. Requires one to climb up work stands, stand, stoop, lift, stretch, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Singularly lift parts and equipment that weigh up to fifty pounds. Push and pull heavy items such as, but not limited to, toolboxes, aircraft jacks, work stands, external power carts, oxygen and nitrogen carts, etc. Work Environment: The Engineering Technician's administrative duties are performed in an office setting. The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., working at great heights under extreme outdoor weather conditions, subject to possible physical attack or mob conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled. Most aircraft maintenance is performed in non-environmentally controlled hangars, or is performed outdoors especially when deployed from home station, in all types of weather conditions and is subject to exposure to may hazards: Tropical heat. Sub-zero arctic cold. Frequent exposure to aircraft fluids, such as fuel, engine oil or hydraulic fluid which may irritate the skin or eyes. Frequent exposure to cleaning solutions, solvents and spray paint which may irritate the skin, eyes, and lungs. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, shocks, strains, and broken bones. Frequent exposure to noise levels above 85 decibels. Condition of Employment: Must be able to obtain and maintain an FAA Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) rating. Travel for indefinite periods as required by the needs of the Aircraft Maintenance Branch and/or Aircraft Operations Center. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a government vehicle in completion of assigned tasks i.e. site visits, field research, etc. Physical requirements to participate in prolong climbing, bending, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds EDUCATION: There is no positive education requirement for this position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify at the GS-11 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Participating in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing or performing preventive maintenance on twin turbo prop aircraft; Assisting in monitoring completion and quality control of maintenance performed on aircraft; and Assisting in determining suitability and certifying the airworthiness of aircraft.
