This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Facilities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.
Duties
Utilize sketches, instructions from Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and drawings, or other defects which render the item unsafe to process or handle in a normal manner to make connections on ammunition components.
Examine all munitions and components at assigned workstations to determine degree of serviceability.
Use simple measuring instruments to set up, test, and operate electrical detonation systems.
Exercise constant vigilance to prevent injury or death to co-workers and/or self while preparing materials for burning.
Perform at all workstations the complete work cycle of renovation, demilitarization, reloading, modification and maintenance to a wide variety of conventional and chemical ammunition and components, and chemical munitions.
Check for evidence of excess deterioration, damage, or other defects which render the item unsafe to process or handle in a normal manner.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a forklift license.
- This position is a drug tested position.
- This position requires an annual physical.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
- This position has Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility responsibilities and requires successful completion of training IAW ANAD's RCRA permit.
- Incumbent is required to complete a DA FORM 7281-R (Command Oriented Arms, Ammunition and Explosives (AA and E) Security Screening and Evaluation Record) per Army Regulation (AR) 190-11.
- This position requires the incumbent to meet the requirements of AMC-R 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations.
- Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle licens

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Explosives Operator without more than normal supervision. I perform duties related to the regular operation of a number of automatic machines and equipment to perform a number of assembly/disassembly operations on explosives. I complete work cycle of renovation, demilitarization, reloading, modification and maintenance to a wide variety of conventional and chemical ammunition and components, which involve high explosives, and chemical munitions. I assure that all operating parameters are met. I must be able to quickly recognize improper functioning of machine to avoid damage.

Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires walking, bending, reaching, crouching, standing, sitting and frequent lifting of weights up to 40 pounds. There is pushing and pulling of items and some assignments require the lifting of items weighing over 40 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling, and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and incumbent may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.). Work is performed inside and outside. Buildings have some heat but incumbent is exposed to weather extremes when working outside. There is exposure to dirt, dust, grease, mud, rain, toxic agents, fumes and noise from machine, power conveyor and exploding munitions. Incumbent is exposed to possibility of flash fires and explosions, which could cause serious injury, dismemberment or loss of life. There is also possibility of burns, mashed fingers, broken extremities, bruises, sprains and other serious accidents. Wears such safety equipment as shoes, glasses, radioactivity detection badges, goggles, face shield, flameproof coveralls, rubber aprons and respirator as necessary.
