Duties

You will provide technical expertise and assist the Deputy Safety Director in effectively administering the Depot’s Occupational Safety and Health Program. You will perform duties as Program Manager for multiple safety programs in a highly complex industrial aircraft repair environment. You will attend a variety of conferences, meetings, and design reviews and provide authoritative advice and recommendations relative to the implementation and application of safety engineering and safety requirements applicable to planned projects. You will evaluate a wide variety of hazardous operations related to mission. You will serve as member of the mishap board conducting investigation of ground accidents, preparing complete report of accident circumstances and formulate and establish procedures for the reporting of all accidents. You will coordinate long-term studies of unsafe or unusual work conditions with cognizant supervisor relative to abatement of conditions. You will participate in meetings with management to assess occupational safety and health hazards in order to eliminate or control unsafe working conditions related to an industrial environment.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to lift and move items up to 45 pounds of weight.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing knowledge of professional engineering principles, methods, and techniques required to identify and control actual or potential hazards in equipment, machine design or operations, and new construction and modifications to facilities in an industrial complex; 2) Utilizing knowledge of occupational safety and health principles, standards, practices, and techniques to develop safety criteria, standards, and training; 3) Planning, organizing and conducting on-site reviews and/or investigations and analysis of the basic safety program and providing adequate/comprehensive resolution to correct the deficiency and/or problem; 4) Providing technical engineering expertise for a wide range of occupational safety and health programs as they relate to a highly industrialized aircraft repair facility; 5) Operating, applying and maintaining technical instruments utilized in safety and health surveys and inspections, including combustible gas indicators, electrical measuring instruments, radiation detection equipment, etc.; and 5) Coordinating a variety of actions and developing plans of action and milestones to effectively monitor and assure effective supply/program support. For 08XX series: Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
