Serves as the Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) for the Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration (EPFD) project in NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD). EPFD implements a unique industry partner construct in which each industry partner utilizes their own internal processes to meet the intent of NASA procedural requirements. You will be responsible for fostering a collaborative relationship with industry partners while identifying and managing risk.

Duties

Leads the overall technical management and technical solution of the project. Leads a team of system and sub-system engineers to develop mission concepts and to develop all levels of project requirements. Develops and modifies immediate and long-range goals, plans, and objectives to meet program and project requirements. Serves as expert consultant in planning, monitoring, and administering projects characterized by a changing physical environment, need to address critical issues, or other similar variables and unknowns in support of ground/flight demonstrations. Defines, develops, and evaluates flight system operational requirements and objectives, mission requirements, and design considerations. Leads the team in planning for and conducting analyses, tests, verification and validation, and certification of flight hardware and software based on systems requirements, mission objectives, and safety requirements. Evaluates in-house and contractor proposals for flight systems and components and provides technical management and direction of contracts involving the design, development, integration, test, evaluation, and improvement of flight systems. Provides highly advanced technical guidance and information to top level administrative and technical agency personnel in areas related to 1 megawatt (MW) class electrified powertrain flight demonstrations. Interfaces with and provides status to senior project leadership for project management, chief engineer office, regulations and standards, technology, and risk management. Interfaces with commercial industry partners. Develops and maintains a collaborative relationship while performing insight and oversight duties. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Evaluating and assessing aerospace system hardware, as it pertains to design, development, integration, testing, and evaluation of system performance; Serving as a key member of a multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for engineering or technical design solution definition and implementation of a system or subsystem; Providing subject matter expertise in the development of system requirements, definition and management of system interfaces, participation in trade studies, management of risks, and execution of verification and validation activities. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
