About the Position: Kimbrough is the headquarters of the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity, Fort George G. Meade, includes a number of U.S. Army health clinics, occupational health clinics, telemedicine, behavioral health, allergen extract lab, drug testing labs, and environmental health clinics at several installations in MD, PA, VA, & DC. Kimbrough provides primary care, selected specialty care & same day surgery for TRICARE Prime patients.

Duties
Serve as Sanitarian and Program Manager - manage and perform associated administrative work and tasks related to the MEDDAC.
Operate the water laboratory, maintain equipment in the water laboratory, and ensure supplies are ordered for the laboratory.
Provide advice and guidance on epidemiological investigations and inspections to activity personnel.
Serve as MEDDAC Radiation Safety Officer for the Radiation Protection Program.
Coordinate and advise the installation pest control personnel.
Manage MEDDAC regulated medical waste program under oversight of the ESO.
Participate as a full member of the Environment of Care Committee administering the Hazardous Materials Management Plan.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position requires that you obtain a valid state driver’s license and operate a government vehicle.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain 40-hour Hazardous Waste Handler's Training/Certification.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain phase one and phase two radiation safety training and annual proficiency level training.

Basic Requirement for Sanitarian:
Experience: Four years of experience in inspectional, investigational, technical support, or other responsible work that provided a knowledge and a fundamental understanding of, and the ability to use, environmental health principles, methods, and techniques equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum.
OR
Education: A Bachelor's or higher level degree included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in a science or any combination of sciences directly related to environmental health (such as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or any appropriate agricultural, biological, or physical science) from an accrediting program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience Requirement:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing, evaluating, and advising on programs designed to prevent and eliminate environmental health hazards; analyzing substances to determine contamination or the presence of disease; resolving environmental health problems through collection, tabulation, and evaluation of environmental sanitation data; and development and implementation of plans to eliminate or control environmental health hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Environmental Health, Sanitary Science, Public Health, or Chemistry. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
