This position is located in the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, Disbursing and Debt Management (DDM), Kansas City Federal Disbursement Services, Payment and Print Solutions Division, Payment Processing Branch.
Duties
As a Check Disbursement Assistant, you will:
-Prepare federal checks, letters, and statements for release into the mail, to affect the special handling and cancellation of certain check payments, communicate with customers on requests, and analyze, reconcile, and report check payment and mailing data.
-Examine daily, weekly, and monthly check and letter lots. Review information for the special handling requests and pull checks and letters/statements as requested by Federal Program Agencies (FPAs).
-Perform actions of locating check payments, reconcile the work, document and maintain records of special handling actions, and prepare check payments for check cancellation in a payment system or prepare check payments for mailing through the United States Postal Service or the Federal Government small package contractor.
-Collect and maintain mail piece and corresponding postage expenditures and prepare reports.
-Complete audits of the job production folders, review completed job production folders to ensure all required documents are included in the folders and the 1691 workflow application is accurate and complete.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized experience: For the GS-06, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes at least THREE (3) of the following:
Applying and evaluating rules, regulations and procedures to complete assignments; AND
Communicating effectively internally and externally; AND
Preparing documents for final disposition, for example mailing; AND
Preparing, reviewing, and reconciling work or customer requests.
