The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) is a bureau within the United States Department of the Interior. OSMRE is responsible for establishing a nationwide program to protect society and the environment from the adverse effects of surface coal mining operations, under which OSMRE is charged with balancing the nation's need for continued domestic coal production with protection of the environment.

Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE), Information Resource Office (IRO) in Washington, DC or Lakewood, CO. At the full performance level (GS-12) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization 2. Manage network infrastructures which includes designing and installing computer systems, routers, switches, local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and intranet systems. 3. Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues 4. Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures 5. Lead the desktop and helpdesk support efforts, making sure all desktop applications, workstations, and related equipment problems are resolved in a timely manner with limited disruptions 6. Participate in technical working groups, contribute technical advice by identifying and recommending a variety of state-of-the-art technologies and/or solutions to meet objectives. 7. Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure 8. Develop organizational security procedures and run regular data checkups - setting up, deleting and maintaining user accounts OSMRE has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Salary Range Information: GS-12 Washington DC: ($94, 199 - $122, 459) per annum. Lakewood, CO: ($91,753- $119, 280) per annum. First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position you must meet the Basic Requirement AND Specialized Experience for the series/grade to which you are applying. Basic Requirement One full year of IT-related experience that demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) Utilizing ticketing systems such as Remedy IT Service Management. 2) Knowledge of Windows latest operating system methods, and tools for assessing issues, and developing or recommending appropriate mitigation countermeasures; AND 3) Knowledge of Incident ResponseProcesses. Must meet all.
