This is a formal Air Force position, established under the PALACE ACQUIRE program. It is centrally managed and funded by the Civilian Career Management Directorate and administered by the History and Museums Civilian Career Program. Interns receive formal, informal, and/or on-the-job training in the discipline and assignments.
Duties
Answers requests for historical information.
Acquires and screens material for historical archives and assists in disseminating that historical information.
Carries out special assignments.
Performs a variety of duties designed to develop knowledge and skill in applying historical methodology.
Requirements
- Grade Point Average - 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0
- You will be required to serve a one-year probationary period
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship
- Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal and Regulatory Guidance
- Must sign a mobility agreement
- Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses may or may not be authorized. PCS expenses if authorized will be paid IAW JTR and Air Force Regulations
- A security clearance may be required
- Student Loan Repayment Program may be offered for eligible candidates
- Must meet suitability for Federal employment
- Disclosure of Political Appointments
- Successful completion of all training and regulatory requirements as identified in the applicable training plan
Qualifications
Any individual who completed all requirements for a bachelor, master, professional, or doctorate degree from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years or will complete these requirements by 1 Aug 2024 meets the basic requirement to apply for the Recent Graduate Program;
-OR-
Any veteran released or discharged from active duty within the previous two years, but due to a military service obligation, was precluded from applying for a recent graduate position during any portion of the two-year eligibility period following completion of applicable degree, and not more than six years have transpired since completing the requirements for the degree

RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA)
Knowledge of history, historical methodology, and related social sciences.
Knowledge of scholarly devices and methods used to document sources for historical information to include reference guides, indexes, catalogs, and other information services.
Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions relating to work.
Ability to grasp and understand Air Force History, organizations, terminology, procedures, equipment, and operations.
Ability to gather facts and use effective, analytical, and evaluative methods to accurately assess information and make sound decisions.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Bachelor's degree in History or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history from a qualifying educational institution is required.

The PALACE Acquire Program offers you a permanent position upon completion of your formal training plan. As a Palace Acquire Intern you will experience both personal and professional growth while dealing effectively and ethically with change, complexity, and problem solving. You must have completed a 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's from an accredited institution AND must have documented Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) at the undergraduate level in one of the following:
a) Class Standing - upper third of the graduating class based on completed courses in the college, university, or major subdivision;
b) Grade Point Average - 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript or as computed based on 4 years of education or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of curriculum; OR 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in your major field or the required courses in your major field completed during the final 2 years of your curriculum. If more than 10 percent of total undergraduate credit hours are non-graded, i.e. pass/fail, CLEP, CCAF, DANTES, military credit, etc., you cannot qualify based on GPA;
c) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society (note: freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this position). (If qualifying based on class standing or honor society membership, provide appropriate documentation).
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
