Engineering Equipment Operator performs work to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments involved in the operation of gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction. These include the operation of equipment such as graders, tractors, with bull dozer or angledozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments.

Duties

Operates one or more types of heavy equipment. Performs preventative maintenance prior to, during or after operation. Must have foot, hand, eye coordination to handle the various controls on the vehicles. Must be able to move the equipment about in confined areas. Operate equipment in a safe manner according to safety rules and regulations and use the equipment properly so that it is not damaged. Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm , subject to change based on the needs of the agency. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/26/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Heavy lifting 45 pounds and over, moderate lifting 15-44 pounds, light lifting under 15 pounds, moderate carrying 15-44 pounds, light carrying under 15 pounds, Straight pulling 8 hours, pulling hand over hand 8 hours, pushing 8 hours, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking 8 hours, standing 8 hours, crawling 8 hours, kneeling 8 hours, repeated bending, climbing legs only, both legs required, operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable to 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, both eyes required, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades of colors, hearing (aid may be permitted), Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat. The operator is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust.
