The primary purpose of this position is: This is a developmental position with known promotion potential to the target position of 8F-9C202 (Student Trainee (Operations Research), GS-1599-05).
Duties
Performs selected tasks and phases of routine studies and projects that require application of basic occupational field theory and principles in the technical area of operations research.
Participates with senior personnel in conducting non-routine projects. Studies Air Force requirements for the projects and research and studies the current body of precedents and technical knowledges.
Provides assistance in planning, monitoring, and conducting special studies, projects, and initiatives.
Requirements
- Must meet suitability requirements for Federal employment
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must be enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying accredited institution
- Must sign a Participant Agreement
- U.S. citizen or national (resident of American Samoa or Swains Island)
- Must be eligible to work under U.S. immigration laws
- Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal and Regulatory Guidance
- You must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
- Accepted for enrollment or enrolled in an approved program
- Pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree (Junior/Senior only), Graduate or Professional Degree
- Enrollment must be at least half-time course load as defined by the education institution (typically six hours or equivalent for undergraduate and three hours or equivalent for graduate)
- Have a good academic standing (no less than 2.95 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale)
- Meet the qualification standards of the position.
- Non-citizens may be eligible for employment if Permitted by the DoD Appropriation Act
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties.
- The employee may be recalled to duty, may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, and may be required to work overtime.
- The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance as a condition of employment.
- This position is designated by the Air Force as a testing designated position under the civilian drug-testing program. (CON'T)
- It is mandatory for the incumbent to refrain from the use of illegal drugs and misuse of prescription medication. If requested, the incumbent must submit to urinalysis testing.
Qualifications
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a developmental opportunity, this position may be filled at the GS-1599-03, GS04, and GS-05 grade level depending on applicant qualifications and organizational requirements. The individual selected for this position may be considered for promotion to a higher grade without further competition upon meeting all legal and regulatory/program requirements.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify for a GS-03: Completion of I full academic year of post-high school study.
To qualify for a GS-04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.
To qualify for a GS-05: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
