The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Training Specialist . The Training Specialist will function under the Environmental Management Service.

Duties

The duties of the position may include but are not limited to: Orientation of all newly hired EMS employees insuring a comprehensive understanding of the Environmental Management mission, vision, and established performance measures. Ensures that all newly hired staff and existing staff understands all established Environmental Management rules, regulations, and procedures regarding position expectations. Serves as the primary educator for the entire service. The incumbent will identify training needs and develop training programs for all staff. The incumbent will make recommendations and collaborate with the section supervisor (to which the employee is assigned) to ensure that an established training program is completed. Develops test criteria for newly hired staff and existing staff in order to validate the adequacy of training, and ensure training is being completed within established timeframes. Identifies any and all new program and application enhancements within the EMS program, determining the impacts of changes and identifying all training requirements necessary for staff to ensure proper implementation with limited problems. Holds primary training responsibility for EMS regarding identification, development, and implementation of any and all training to be offered by the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. Works with program managers and supervisors as well as the Chief, Environmental Management Service in the identification, development, and implementation of any potential training necessities required for each program, including on-going, training requirements to ensure program efficiencies are maintained. Evaluates training and education outcomes to determine if necessary, proficiencies have been achieved. Conduct Quality Assurance Checks throughout the facility. Work Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly, Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, occasional weekends. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/30/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). Supervising or administering a training program. Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. . OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education. Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items. Movable carts will be used to transport audio-visual equipment. Use of a computer keyboard is necessary but can be self-paced. Work is performed primarily in a sedentary position.
