You will serve as a PRODUCTION CONTROLLER (SHIPS) in the Work Packaging (Nuclear) Branch (Code 229) in the Process Controls Division (Code 220) for the Chief Engineer (Code 240) in the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD, supporting the Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) in Charleston, SC.

Duties

You will exercise decision-making authority for issues that are not novel, precedent setting or controversial. You will implement corrective actions, such as changing or emphasizing priorities, modifying schedules or balancing workload. You will brief the WPC (Work Packaging Branch) Manager on resolution of pending issues. You will represent the WPC Manager in Departmental meetings and decision-making. You will perform work packaging duties for special emphasis projects. You will interface with inside shop managers to resolve deficiencies. You will resolve material delays by negotiating delivery dates with vendors.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying comprehensive knowledge of nuclear production methods, technical procedures, funding, materials and equipment for ship maintenance, repair, and overhaul of complex Navy vessels. Experience planning and managing work schedule, cost, material and technical work instructions to accomplish project mission. Experience preventing production delays, scheduling conflicts and the lack of sufficient material and instructions. Experience applying primary and secondary reactor plant systems, Nuclear Power Manual (NPM) chapters, Technical Work Documents (TWDs), and radiological control procedures applicable to nuclear ship maintenance and repair. Experience acquiring, storing and issuing materials. Experience utilizing shipyard Management Information Systems (MIS) including: AIM to include WPC and Nuclear WPC Process Guide, PDMSS, SUPDESK, PMC, MREQ, MAT01, and various network services on the shipyard LAN. Experience utilizing Advanced Industrial Management (AIM) processes, and knowledge of project computer applications.
