The primary purpose of this position is to perform technical work in support of scientific analysis, measurement, and tests in the evaluation and advancement of Airborne weapon systems and electronic, electro-mechanical, or electro-optical systems.

Duties

Designs, fabricates, installs, functional checks and maintains specialized instrumentation systems to measure and record test parameters in a variety of environmental, field or laboratory conditions. Organizes and directs the support effort for test program instrumenta1ion preflight and post flight requirements. Accomplishes calibration, checkout, during performance validation of instrumentation systems equipment during T-2 modification installation/checkout applying personal expertise and knowledge of systems of assigned aircraft and under direction of responsible aircraft systems engineer. Accomplishes technical research and planning to accomplish electrical fabrication and installation of wiring that will be required for aerospace test vehicle modification. Follows all safety, security and fire regulations, ensures classified materials are controlled at all times and complies with FOD prevention and general housekeeping.

  • Outdoor test and flight line sites there is regular/recurring exposure to adverse weather conditions, temperature extremes, high noise levels, and rapid changes in wind shift.
  • The work requires the employee to stay alert continually and to take special safety precautions including wearing special protective items of clothing.
  • The work involves walking, sitting, and standing in laboratories, instrumentation repair/fabrication facilities, test cells, and outdoor facilities, and requires good eye-hand coordination for working in and around aircraft and associated equipment.
  • This position requires completion and passing of a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Routinely requires heavy lifting of 45 pounds and occasionally up to 70 pounds to perform mission support tasks.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions (Technical and Medical Support Positions) located here. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience include utilizing a background of aircraft electronics experience to fabricate, install, operationally check, and maintain specialized aircraft instrumentation systems to measure and record test parameters in a variety of environmental, field, or laboratory conditions. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-10 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: I. Ability to design, fabricate, install and maintain specialized instrumentation systems which measure and record test parameters in a variety of environmental, field, or laboratory conditions .. 2. A thorough knowledge of electronic principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems and components associated with airborne and ground instrumentation systems. 3. Knowledge of basic electronic concepts and ability to convert theoretical ideas to functional components and systems. 4. Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems. 5. Ability to use electronic test equipment. 6. Ability to perform calibration and troubleshooting for installed instrumentation systems, including video recording, digital data recording, weapon function monitoring, and other data collection systems.???????
