This position is located at the Northern Research Station with a duty location of Lansing, MI. The employee supports scientists by applying the principles, procedures, requirements, and work techniques and practices to compile data from multiple sources and analyses qualitative and/or quantitative information. Duties

Plans and carries out work for conventional projects and uses computer programs to interpret and analyze complex experimental data and prepare analytical reports. Provides support on studies conducted by staff and occasionally literature searches. Sets up numerical models and analyzes observational data to support physical investigations. Determines adequacy of testing and takes action to eliminate any inconsistencies by resolving deviations in data. Prepares data and results for inclusion in scientific briefings, study papers, research manuscripts, or project reports. Prepares reports and documents analysis procedures and techniques for incorporation into the final project report. Performs a variety of modeling and physical techniques to support the collection, creation, and analysis of physical data.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience: the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed. This information must be provided for each permanent, temporary or seasonal appointment/work assignment or volunteer work and should be clearly documented as a separate block of time. Incomplete, inaccurate or conflicting work history may not be credited for qualifications purposes. This can result in an applicant not being considered for the position. Minimum Qualifications Requirement: For the GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level. To qualify at this grade level, your resume must show all of the following experience: Adapting, modifying, and/or developing physical science related techniques and/or procedures including those involving specialized equipment and automated systems; Resolving or correcting technical difficulties with communicating physical science related test results, recognizing and resolving significant deviations in collected data, and writing reports of findings; Planning and executing the details of physical science projects which have technical problems and coordinating associated crews or other personnel. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the position (such as physical sciences, engineering, or mathematics). OR A combination of graduate level education that is directly related to the position, and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
