The incumbent will perform duties such as painting wood, metal, equipment, interiors, and exteriors of buildings, using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment. You will determine proper coating materials, prepare surfaces by scraping and sanding, mix paints, apply prime, intermediate, and finish coats including decorative finishes by stippling, graining, marbling, and mottling.

Duties

As a Painter, you will perform all duties associated with the application, maintenance, and repair of all types of finishes, including special finishing techniques such as marbling and graining, by using coating materials that are prepared in special and common way and by applying coating techniques that ensure surfaces have a smooth textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Prepares surfaces such as plaster, drywall, wood, masonry, and wood to accept finishes and by filling in holes with spackle, drywall compound, or wood filler. Installs protective barriers i.e. plastic wall partitions with zippered entrance way to protect patients and staff from dust, paint splattering, and odors when needed. Sands rough or uneven surfaces and repairs to ensure a level surface. Primes surfaces using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment to an acceptable thickness to ensure proper bonding of top coat and protection of material being prepared. Applies a wide variety of coatings to achieve a professional look and quality. Reads product labeling and literature to ensure proper and safe use and storage. Properly uses and cares for coating equipment such as brushes, rollers, sprayers, line stripers; hand and power tools; and equipment such as paint shakers. Receives work assignments from electronic work order system or verbal instruction from supervision. Schedules work with area staff to minimize staff and patient disruption and to determine their expectation. Determines necessary materials and equipment and ensures that they are available. Independently lays job out, protects any furnishings and floor with drop cloths, and cleans up work area. Works in a professional, timely, and safe manner to produce acceptable results. Consults with customer prior to departing work site to confirm satisfaction. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work is often performed from ladders, scaffolds, and lifts. Extended standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in uncomfortable positions are often required. Continually handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally handles objects weighing 60 pounds or more. Works inside and outside, sometimes in inclement weather. Is frequently exposed to paint spray, fumes, dust, and other irritants. May experience discomfort while wearing respirator. Is subject to cuts, bruises, and repetitive motion injuries.
