The primary purpose of this position is to clean a variety of equipment to restore overall cleanliness, which includes location and treatment of corrosion, removal of all paint/rust from the interirors and exteriors of aircraft and other equipment without damage to the structure of the equipment being cleaned.

Duties

Operates a computerized industrial cleaning system to accomplish cleaning of aircraft jet engine parts. Monitors the progress of transporters into the system applying a thorough knowledge of chemical cleaning process, technical order provisions, special process operating procedures, and process orders. Practical and operational knowledge of the industrial cleaning system. Works with representatives from the chemical process laboratory, engineering and planning, and plant management in updating computerized industrial cleaning system programs. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-7000 Packing and Processing Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (other than blueprints) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Dexterity and Safety WORK CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may have poor lighting and ventilation. Constantly exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, grease, oils, and cleaning agents. Working conditions include the possibility of falls, cuts, bruises, scrapes, burns from steam, and skin, nose, and eye irritation when working with or in close proximity to toxic chemicals such as muriatic, nitric, and sulfuric acids. May be required to wear protective clothing such as aprons, gloves, goggles, boots, hats, face shields, and respirators. Safety protection may be required such as hearing protection (when noise level is over 85 decibels), safety glasses and safety equipment. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
