The Utility System Repairer Operator (USRO) is assigned to Engineering in Facilities Management Service (FMS) with North Florida/South Georgia VA Healthcare System. Selectee stands watch as either a Graphic Control Operator or a Boiler Watch in the Central Energy Plant most of the time. This position may be assigned as needed to assist any other worker in the Plant in the performance of their duties.

Duties

Major duties include, but not limited to: Operates, maintains, and repairs a multi-fueled high pressure system plant consisting of water tube boilers. Operates, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all auxiliary plant equipment and systems. Conducts scheduled rotation for boiler operation to equalize rune time. Ensures each boiler maintains proper functions under load conditions. Performs visual inspections of plan equipment, shift assignments, and hourly record keeping. Visually inspects outside equipment and checklist assignments. Fuel tank inspections and preventive maintenance checklists of safety devises. Monitors the Energy Management System to ensure temperatures and humidity are within acceptable parameters. Utilizes the EMS system to respond to alarms initiated by equipment with the Boiler Pant such as carbon monoxide alarms, tank water level alarms, sump pump alarms. Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts; 40 hours a week; includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Position Description Title/PD#: Utility Systems Repairer-Operator/PD00317A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive: Authorized for highly qualified candidates Working Conditions: Most of the incumbent's work is done inside; however, the incumbent is frequently exposed to harsh conditions and extreme temperature variances while in the performance of daily duties. The incumbent could be subject to cuts, burns, electrical shock and respiratory ailments, and may be exposed to refrigerant, smoke, dust chemicals, etc. The incumbent may be required to work in hot, cold, dirty, wet, high, cramped or isolated locations to repair equipment. The incumbent is required to work all shifts which may be rotating or continuous off hour tours. Physical Requirements: There is a great deal of physical effort involved with this job because of the size of the equipment with which the incumbent works during overhaul or repair as well as the chemicals that are maneuvered from place to place. The incumbent frequently carries up to 50 pounds while operating or performing maintenance. Chain hoists and various creative rigging are used for manipulating units weighing up to 5000 pounds. The incumbent climbs ladders during normal operation and frequently makes repairs or installation from them as well as scaffolding or platforms where the portions of the system being worked on are in hard to reach areas. The incumbent works in tiring positions and is required to stand for extended periods of time. The incumbent is also required to perform various functions related to the assigned task while stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
