As the Program Support Assistant (PSA), for the Business Office, at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (OBVAMC), the PSA provides a high level of administrative and data support to HAS to include the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) as well as to the OBVAMC.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Will serve as advisors and experts to the Supervisory Clinical Administrative Specialist and support the management information components of all health eligibility related programs.
Will be involved in an extremely complex blend of computing technology,
medical information, communication skills and leadership qualities in a rapidly changing
environment.
Documents and prepares statistical ambulance reports to supervisor upon request for
fiscal year budget. Maintains and controls filing system in accordance with VA
regulations.
Responsible for all administrative and operational details relating to both
deceased and seriously ill patients determined to be near death.
Will enter all information into the data base for determination of the eligibility status for healthcare
Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm, subject to change based on needs of facility

This position is covered by AFGE bargaining unit. Per the Master Agreement, the Area of Consideration will be: 1st Area of Consideration - Current Facility and CBOC employees; 2nd Area of Consideration - VA Nationwide applicants; 3rd Area of Consideration.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/25/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GA-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Skilled in the use of office equipment and skill in using a PC and associated software including Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and printer in order to perform some office duties and research tasks required by the project.
Experience with general research principles, various data gathering and data management techniques, such as patient interviewing, medical record abstracting, downloading and working with VA administrative databases, data cleaning, coding, and entry and the ability to integrate the information into workable research plans.
Experience communicating with research subjects, including patients, families, clinical staff, and research team members.
Skilled in conducting interviews utilizing multiple techniques such as: structured diagnostic interviews, and structured system rating scales pertinent to research protocol.
Experience developing and administering focus groups and surveys to extract data.

Physical Requirements: This is primarily a sedentary position, but the work requires some walking, bending, stooping and carrying of light objects such as manuals, documents, etc. Concentration
and sustained performance under prolonged stress is required because of the time factors involved in completion of work assignments within deadlines.
