The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
Sequence numbers and DLN's to be used when processing returns, FTD's and IRP documents. This requires extensive knowledge of the IRS numbering system as well as knowledge of how SCRIPS assigns numbers. Failure to correctly assign numbers could cause an overflow condition, which results in problems in files, the Federal Records Center and Accounting. Ensures numbers are not skipped and/or duplicated.
Receives work on batch carts from document preparation area. Ensures Forms W-2, correspondence, unnecessary schedules, etc. arc detached from the returns: removes staples and paper clips, and makes necessary repairs.
Prior to beginning a scanner job, reviews SCRIPS breaker transmittal sheets to ensure correct programs will be loaded by the scanner. Scans documents, unloads stacker trays, annotates DIN's on folders, and associates appropriate W-2's with scanned documents.
Reviews error messages on console and independently determines appropriate corrective action.
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-05: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience using operating characteristics of equipment and controls to diagnose, adjust, repair, and operate the equipment or machine and perform preventive maintenance; Experience working with the features, capabilities, and characteristics of several software applications to diagnose and solve some technical processing errors and problems; Experience with rules, regulations, guidelines and procedures relating to the production of materials using electronic systems to operate the equipment, schedule work, and solve problems; Experience with record keeping requirements to maintain records.
OR
A Bachelors degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
A combination of education and experience equivalent to that described above.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-6 Level: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience using the operating characteristics of a wide range of complex equipment and controls to diagnose, adjust, repair, and operate the equipment or machine and perform preventive maintenance; Experience working with the features, capabilities, and characteristics of several software applications to diagnose and solve technical processing errors and problems; Experience with rules, regulations, guidelines and procedures relating to the production of materials using electronic systems to operate the equipment, schedule work, and solve problems; Experience with record keeping requirements to maintain records.
AND
MEET TIME IN GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT: You must meet applicable TIG requirements to be considered eligible. To meet TIG for positions above the GS-05 grade level, you must have served at least one year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade (or equivalent) in the normal line of progression for the position you are applying to. Advancement to positions up to GS-05 is permitted if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade held within the preceding 52 weeks.
AND
TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT: By the closing date (or if this is an open continuous announcement, by the cut-off date) specified in this job announcement, current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment.
