Duties
Provides technical and administrative supervision of professional, technical, and administrative positions to carry out the mission of the organization.
Responsible for the overall planning and development of all of the programs for which they have been assigned in the Field Office.
Promotes internal and external communication with local interest groups, individuals, users, the general public, State and local government, and other Federal personnel.
Assists the Field Manager in achieving and maintaining effective relationships with news media, resource users, local government officials, and interest groups to foster public awareness.
Provides input to the preparation, implementation, and conformance of the land use plans, interdisciplinary activity plans, and ecosystem plans.
Ensures compliance with Bureau policies, regulations, applicable federal, state, and local laws, and agreements relating to renewable and non-renewable resource programs.

Qualifications

This position has a Basic Education Requirement (BER) which can be satisfied by meeting one of the following:
Archaeologist 0193: Have a BA/BS degree in archeology or a related discipline that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas: history of archeology; archeology of a major geographical area; regional archeology; theory and methods of archeology; archeological field school; AND 6 semester hours of courses in geography, geology, or cultural geography; history; historiography or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing and/or surveying; OR have a degree in anthropology, history, American studies, or a related discipline that included academic course work similar to that stated above; OR have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in archeology or related disciplines appropriate to the position advertised; OR have four years of archeological work experience that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology AND included archeology field experience equivalent to archeological field school. I will provided a copy of all college transcripts.
Natural Resources Specialist 0401: Have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR have a combination of education and experience - have completed courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. I will provided a copy of all college transcripts.
Geologist 1350: Have a degree in geology, which included or was supplemented by 20 semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography; OR have a combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. I will provided a copy of all college transcripts.
At the GS-12 Level: In addition to BER must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as experience working in a Natural Resource environment applying federal laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines; experience planning, developing, and implementing nature resource programs; leads and/or coaches individuals in planning and organizing management objectives; experience in providing internal and external guidance on complex issues and policies; experience in coordinating with interdisciplinary teams to achieve land management objectives.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: Approximately 80% of the incumbent's work is performed in an office setting. Approximately 20% of the incumbent's work would involve travel or field work. Occasional required travel to other locations which can require air travel or vehicle travel of more than 5 hours. There are occasional field to sites that require four-wheel drive vehicles, fixed wing aircraft, helicopter, and boats, potentially in adverse climatic conditions. Field work may involve long hours of driving four-wheel vehicles in rugged terrain, extended hiking, and the occasional movement of heavy objects. Field work involves walking, bending, and climbing on steep and rough terrain. Meetings can be controversial and generate considerable stress.
Work Environment: Most work is performed in a typical office setting. Field assignments are performed in areas exposed to temperatures in excess of 115 degrees and/or wind chill factors approaching 0 degrees for several hours at a time. Some outdoor work requires special safety precautions. The incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer.

This position has a positive education requirement (see qualification section for education requirements). You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment. If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
