You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT REPAIR INSPECTOR in the INSPECTION, TEST, QA, AND TRAINING DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will provide mechanical inspection and test services on various naval weight handling equipment such as cranes and other equipment to assure equipment integrity and compliance to specification requirements.
You will perform periodic maintenance inspections and emergent deficiency inspections of weight handling equipment hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, and electrical/mechanical systems and other equipment as assigned.
You will inspect and troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, and electrical/mechanical components during removal, repair, alteration, overhaul, installation and alignment.
You will identify specific deficiencies which preclude continued safe equipment operation and advises supervisor of deficiencies requiring engineering resolution.
You will initiate the proper corrective document for engineering or shop work, inspects the work, and conducts appropriate operational test to assure acceptable quality and satisfactory work completion.
You will troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, structural, and electrical/mechanical components during removal, repair, alteration, overhaul, installation and alignment.
You will perform in-process and post-completion inspections of repairs and modifications, assuring compliance to written detailed work instructions.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

*Performing a wide variety of inspection techniques to examine assemblies and systems that have been repaired by trades' workers and outside contractors in several discrete trades.
*Working with electrical, electronic, and computerized equipment and systems, and various mathematics for making on-site calculations.
*Ability to review and correctly interpret engineering drawings, specifications and blueprints, electrical and hydraulic schematics, manufactures literature, and maintenance procedures.
*Operating computer software to perform software testing and verification.
*Ability to use a variety of trade related hand tools, standard and specialized diagnostic and test equipment.
