This position is located within the Forest Service, Chief Information Office, in Juneau, Alaska. This position serves as an Electronics Technician with responsibility for land mobile radio systems within their geographic area.

Duties
The responsibilities listed are at the full performance level.
Programs authorized radio frequencies into radios, requests frequencies, mitigates and deconflicts interference issues, collaborates with other entities to write channel plans, and provide interagency collaboration on frequencies.
Trains and mentors' other technicians on configuring and maintaining of land mobile radio systems.
Meets major project goals without compromising design engineering principles and security/safety requirements.
Designs and implements corrective and preventive maintenance of lightning protection and grounding systems, and primary and backup power systems.
Installs radio control components and links, such as Radio Control over Internet Protocol (RCoIP), Very High Frequency (VHF)/Ultra High Frequency (UHF) links, dispatch console computers, and Ethernet equipment.
Requirements

- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

- This is a Test Designated Position. You will be tested for illegal drugs prior to appointment and randomly thereafter. Appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results.
- This position requires initial and continuing qualifications in the use of firearms as outlined in the Gun Control Act of 1968, amended by the Lautenberg Amendment of 1996.
- Must successfully complete the agency tower certification program no more than six months after being hired and will be required to re-certify periodically as required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For GS-9 Position
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as meeting two or more of the following: assisting with installing and maintaining land mobile radio systems; and/or resolving/troubleshooting a variety of technical problems related to land mobile radio systems; and/or assisting with the acquisition and configuration of requirements for land mobile radio system components.
For GS-10 Position
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as meeting two or more of the following: installing, maintaining, and repairing land mobile radio systems; and/or performing the acquisition, development of requirements, and configuration management of land mobile radio systems; and/or assisting in the design of Land Mobile Radio systems; and/or analyzing and interpreting land mobile radio systems schematics and block diagrams.
For GS-11 Position
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as meeting three or more of the following: designing, redesigning, fabricating, and modifying land mobile radio systems and equipment; and/or diagnosing land mobile radio system malfunctions and operating difficulties; and/or coordinating installations and removals of mobile radios; and/or developing methods and procedures for maintenance and testing of land mobile radio systems and subsystem components.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Education
