This position is located Pine Knot Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in McCreary, KY. The incumbent is responsible for providing vocational instruction in order to develop and instruct students in the Forestry Practices vocation. Duties

Duties are listed at full performance level. Instruct and demonstrate to the students the proper techniques and methods of basic forestry concepts, such as timber marking, timber stand improvement, tree planting, firefighting, trail construction and maintenance, etc. Develop and review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. Maintains student data and provides reports on students to other center areas. Motivate students with diverse backgrounds and educational levels and abilities.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. Provide course descriptions as necessary. For the GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level; OR one full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement related to the position; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work with major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of specialized experience are: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. For the GS-9: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal service; OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: Providing classroom and field instruction on a variety of topics in Natural Resources, Silviculture, Forestry, and Fire. Preparing and reviewing training/course materials. Demonstrating proper use of forestry equipment and tools. Recommending changes to course materials or methods of instruction. Following structured lesson plans. Monitoring student vocational progress. Maintaining student records. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience..
