This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 1039 hours. The entry-on-duty period for Cape Cod National Seashore is December - May but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Open to the first 30 applicants or until 10/23/2023 whichever comes first. Only the first 30 applicants received based on time date stamp will be considered. Other applicants will be considered if first group is exhausted.

Duties

Identifies, independently sorts, inventories and classifies museum artifacts and objects. Properly handles museum objects and performs routine cleaning of objects as directed and in according to established standards. The types of artifacts/objects to be cleaned include, but are not limited to scrimshaw, historic books, furniture, textiles, ceramics, documents and photographs. Maintains museum records, including accessions, catalog and loan records Catalogs and enter objects into NPS databases, including CACO archeological collections. Implements museum environmental monitoring and integrated pest management (IPM) programs. Implements housekeeping schedules and provides daily and cyclical cleaning and monitoring of artifacts at public areas, exhibition spaces and storage areas. Processes incoming and outgoing loans and ensures all NPS standards for insurance, security and environment are met. Provides answers to inquiries concerning Cape Cod history, and CACO historic structures and collections for park visitors, staff, and outside researchers. Identifies preservation needs and recommends additional actions for the care of collections. Assists with the installation, repair and rehabilitation of exhibits. Prepare written reports for supervisors on various topics.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/23/2023-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: knowledge of curatorial principles of cataloging and processing, preservation and conservation, inventorying, housing and exhibit practices; and working with researchers. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one (1) full academic year (18 semester hours) of related graduate level education, or *superior academic achievement within a related field of study (e.g. museum studies, archival management, or history). You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, 6 months of specialized experience (50% of experience required) plus completion of nine (9) semester hours of graduate education (50% of education requirement) would qualify an applicant for this position. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
