About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities. NOTE: This position is a temporary position NTE 30 September 2024

Duties

Serves as Library Technician on the Information Services team of the U.S. Military Academy Library delivering outstanding and professional customer service to cadets, faculty, staff, and other Library visitors. Works at service desks throughout the Library to provide assistance to Library users. Ensures that the circulating physical materials collection is maintained in a timely and efficient manner. Receives and sends requests to borrow materials from other libraries. Maintains security and access policies and procedures for Jefferson Hall.

Requirements

  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on some evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, 1) utilizing automation databases to maintain library listings, track materials, and/or update files; 2) utilizing processing software such as Microsoft Office to create correspondence, reports, or other types of documents; AND 3) providing customer service by answering basic questions for facility users. OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalConscientiousnessCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)
