This position serves as a Patient Services Assistant and is responsible for supporting the daily transport of patients and specimens as well as providing direction for volunteers assigned to Escort; assisting in all aspects of the coordination and movement of patients and specimens at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS ), VA Voluntary/Community Resource Service program (VAVS).
Duties
Major duties listed but not limited to:
Transport of patients, specimens and other patient related articles.
Receives transport requests by telephone.
Prepares and maintains records reflecting work volume and is responsible for the clerical-administrative aspects of scheduling and processing necessary to complete all escort activities.
Keeps up-to-date with room and clinic changes and recommends to the supervisor the revision of escort directions and resources to meet these changes.
Coordinates the work of volunteers assigned to Escort, assigns requests on selective consideration of transportation method needed to move the patient.
Assures compliance with hand-off communication procedures, checking each patient's name band prior to transporting to ensure proper patient identification.
Disinfects/wipes down transport equipment with approved cleaning product prior to each patient transport.
Makes routine specimen rounds when assigned to assure that lab specimens are picked up and delivered in a timely manner. Makes certain that all requisitions are attached and those specimens are properly bagged by department staff prior to delivery to the lab. Deliver blood products when assigned. Check name and number on each blood product for accuracy.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm
