This position serves as a Utilities Systems Repairer-Operator within the Facilities Management Service/Engineering Operations Section at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System (SLVHCS).
DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupation.
Duties
As a Utility Systems Repairer Operator, you will:
Be responsible for maintaining and operating the entire Medical facilities including but not limited to the Boiler Plant, Chiller Plant, Research Building,
Inpatient Building, Outpatient Building, Transitional Living Building, Rehab Building, Administration Building, and Diagnostic and Treatment Building.
Perform tasks in the fields of air conditioning, refrigeration and steam distribution to maintain a comfortable environment throughout the campus, controlling air handlers, hot water reheat system, chilled water systems in the field along with the Building Management Computer System.
Perform overhaul, installation, maintenance, modification, and repair of various types of boiler, chiller and air conditioning equipment which is characterized by moderate complexity of design, construction, and function.
Use basic knowledge and skills of the crafts to perform scheduled preventive maintenance inspections, systematic troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of Boilers Systems, Chillers Systems, Natural Gas System, Steam and Chill Water Distributing System, Fuel Oil System, Fire Alarm System, Medical Gas System, Elevator System and various sizes and types of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and system components such as: pneumatic and electronic/electric control devices, water pumps, fans, automatic steam and water regulating valves, humidifiers, compressors, gauges, switches, relays, and meters.
Perform vibration analysis of major building service equipment such as circulating pumps, air handlers, cooling tower fans, medical air compressors and vacuum pumps, etc.
Charge systems with proper refrigerants to obtain optimum operating levels. Install, maintain, and repair tubing, valves, fittings, castings, and equipment by welding, brazing, soldering, and flaring.
Responsible for ensuring the operation, maintenance, rebuilding, servicing, and comparable major repairs of all aspects of the Central Energy Plant systems.
Monitors, operates, and troubleshoots, Fire Alarm Panels, Oxygen Nitrogen Medical Gas Panels, Johnson Controls Metasys Extended Architecture Control System, Johnson Controls PMI Control System, Siemens Apogee Control System, SCADA Emergency Power System, Medical Air and Dental Vacuum Systems, and Air Compressors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.
Operate, monitoring, and troubleshoot Medical Air Compressors, Dental vacuum equipment, Control Air Pneumatic Compressors, and all pneumatic control valves.
Responsible for operating and monitoring all emergency power equipment including all generators and all switch gear related to emergency power located in each Central Energy Plant.
Work Schedule: Monday - Sunday, 08:00am - 4:00pm, 4:00pm - 12:00am, and 12:00am - 8:00am, Rotating shifts including weekends and Holidays (Subject to change based on the needs of the Agency)

Physical Requirements: Incumbent may frequently work in hot, humid, confined spaces around equipment and systems associated with facilities. He/she must climb ladders, bend, crouch, stoop and endure prolonged periods of standing and walking. Incumbent must lift parts and supplies weighing up to 40 lbs. Must be physically fit as work involves lifting, pulling, climbing, crawling, working with hands over head, working in confined areas, and using arm and back muscles. Incumbent must possess ability to be on feet for long periods either standing, walking, working off ladder, or staging materials, and lifting equipment.
