Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Generalist is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves as an advance technician for the Emergency Department.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to.
Observes patient status and keeps licensed personnel informed of any change in condition.
Provides geriatric-specific care.
Performs Patient Transport with or without cardiac monitor.
Administration of medication.
Assists licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations.
Responds to medical emergencies as a part of the Rapid Response Team (RRT), Code Blue team, or medical transport team
Initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS), use of automatic external defibrillator, and assists with airway management using bag-valve-mask (BVM), oral airway or nasal airway.
Performs Cardiovascular monitoring to include: providing support, relief, and coverage as needed to central station telemetry.
Recognizing lethal rhythms/arrhythmias (i.e. ventricular fibrillation and asystole) and immediately notifies appropriate staff.
Collects specimens.
Assists in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an emergency setting.
Sets up equipment and surgical instrumentation.
Performs Vital Signs and Point of Care Testing.
Operates specialized medical equipment and assists with patient exams and screenings.
Performs observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel.
Performs measurements of PR, QRS, QT, RR, and QTC intervals, interprets rhythm, and prints rhythm strip.
Obtaining patient health history for chief complaints, medication history, and information about health-related or high-risk conditions that may impact the patient's health status.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience GS-07 Grade Level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization; Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience performing observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with the LIP and/or RN: Experience operating specialized medical equipment and assisting with patient exams and screenings; Experience performing Vital Signs and Point of Care Testing; Experience assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an emergency setting; and responding to medical emergencies when necessary. (Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit.)

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-07 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one (1) year of graduate education (18 semester hours) directly related to this position. (Transcript(s) required).
OR,
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-07 level. You must have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education to meet the qualification requirements. (Ex. 6 months of specialized experience and 9 hours of graduate education).
To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-07. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work involves extended periods of bending, standing and walking. Generally, the work requires recurring physical exertion with assisting patients.
