The Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisory Technician is responsible for assisting in coordinating comprehensive pharmaceutical care activities in all inpatient and clinic settings at the Central Arkansas Veterans Health System (CAVHS), these pharmaceutical care activities include inpatient care services that include preparation, distribution, and management of various med dosage forms and products; pharmaceutical care to veterans; and fulfillment of all organization and regulatory requirements.

VA Careers - Pharmacy: https://youtube.com/embed/Fn_ickNBEws The duties include but are not limited to: Administration/Supervisory- Responsible for planning, organizing and reviewing work, administering personnel matters and dealing effectively with non-professional employees and union representatives in regard to employee management concerns in a busy medical center pharmacy. Responsible for developing schedule, planning and granting leave and rotating duties of non-professional staff. Projects overtime requirements based on workload and staffing. Assist with developing performance standards that are realistic, challenging and support the organizational mission, vision, and goals. Ensures that employees meet performance standards and competencies. Identifies areas for improvement as needed. Effectively manages personnel and works towards resolving all labor relations issues. Reviews and completes on yearly basis the Performance Appraisals for subordinates and updates performance plans as required. Discusses plan on semi-annual basis with the employees and completed evaluations are signed by the employee and submitted for review within scheduled time frame. Nominated staff to receive awards and initiates disciplinary action and/or separation based upon performance. Assesses workload volume throughout the day, identifying backlogs and makes staffing adjustments as needed to meet organizational goals. Provides effective leadership of other technicians in promoting department and organizational priorities such as Lean, VISN LOC goals, and services that benefit the veteran. Program Monitoring and Evaluation- Monitors workflow patterns to keep drug distribution in accordance with the requirements of Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) for both unit dose and IV admixtures programs while ensuring accurate dispensing and record keeping. Effectively evaluates inpatient activities to assist management to obtain short and long-range objectives/goals. Coordinates day-to-day maintenance and operation of pharmacy equipment and automation. Assists other pharmacy managers and staff to identify areas of duplication of efforts and develops solutions to streamline processes, reduce waste, save costs and improve patient care. Encourages pharmacy technicians to report actual and/or potential medication errors or adverse events and participate in quality improvement initiatives to promote patient safety. Training and Education- Assists with the training, orientation and re-training of employees to Pharmacy Service policies and procedures. Responsible for reviewing each subordinate's competencies within applicable areas of assignment on an annual basis. Any deficiency is properly noted and training/re-training is scheduled in a timely manner. Assures all employees in area receive on the job training and are aware of policies and procedures. Re-trains those employees exhibiting deficiencies (problems on the job training). Assists in documenting subordinate employee mandatory training. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Education or Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience. Certification: Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above. Grade Determinations: PHARMACY TECHNICIAN, GS-0661-8 Experience. One year experience at the next lower level and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): *1. Knowledge of human resource management policies and procedures, and the ability to supervise various levels of pharmacy technicians and other technical personnel (for supervisory assignments). *2. Ability to apply management and leadership principles. 3. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. 4. Extensive working knowledge of the pharmacy operation. 5. Ability to assess staff needs and provide appropriate training. Preferred Experience: Supervisory experience preferred References: VA Handbook 5005/15, Part II Appendix G28, Pharmacy Technician Qualification Standard. The position is above full performance level (GS-8). Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending, specific visual requirement (ability to read prescriptions), hearing (aid permitted).
