The position is at the full performance level located in the Engineering Service of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Greater Los Angeles VA Medical Center. The primary duties for this position are to create, build, install, alter, repair, and modify special and intricate furniture/fixtures designed to meet specialized applications using wood and other materials as required.

Duties
Duties included but are not limited to the following:
Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs and modifies building components such as rafters, walls, staircases, windows and frames, trim work and furniture/cabinets.
Plans and completes projects to involve constructing, altering, repairing and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams.
Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs and modifies routine mill work, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc.
Performs work to close tolerances, exact fit and structural soundness.
Operates and uses a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools.
Operates and uses carpentry tools by setting-up, adjusting and maintaining tools to meet required specifications.
Operates and uses a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting and maintaining tools to meet required specifications.
Plans, measures and lays out carpentry materials using broad knowledge of wood materials and substitutes, with general and precision woodworking techniques.
Projects involving constructing, altering, repairing and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams.
Plans, measures and lays out carpentry materials using advanced shop mathematics for complex and exact projects.
Plans, measures and lays out carpentry materials by interpreting complex or incomplete instructions, sketches, blueprints and building codes.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Physical Requirements: Incumbent must exert moderate to arduous physical effort involving walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing on ladders, scaffolding and rooftops while working on various structures throughout the Medical Center. If the assignment is located at a job site, strenuous physical exertion may be required when handling heavy/bulky materials such as sheets of plywood, and other building/construction materials. Incumbent uses manual or portable power tools for extended periods of time in uncomfortable and/or awkward positions. Must be able to lift
up to 50 pounds and may lift/move heavier items with assistance.
