About the Position: Serves as the principal Safety and Occupational Health Manager to a CASCOM School commandant, assistant commandant, staff and faculty personnel. Plans, administers, and is responsible for ensuring a School wide Safety Program for all personnel including enrolled students at Fort Gregg-Adams and other proponent school locations responsible for instructing School products.

Duties

Reviews training programs and products and applies risk management procedures to ensure safety of participants. Plans, develops, implements policies and procedures for the School's safety program within the broad framework of army goals and objectives, legislation, and executive orders. Plans, develops, administers, and evaluates School wide safety and occupational health surveillance and enforcement program. Serves as the principal safety point of contact for Army Rail Safety, Rail safety training, policy development, accident investigations, and compliance with Federal Regulations and rules. Provides guidance and interpretation and supervises the implementation of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) requirements and ensures compliance of such. Develops training material and conducts training of unit safety officers in safety program requirements, policies, procedures, regulations and techniques in conducting the safety program.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the employee to occasionally travel on military and commercial aircraft for short periods away from the normal duty station to include CONUS or OCONUS about 5% of the time.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain Professional Certificate in Safety and Occupational Health (PCSOH) formerly known as the CP-12 Professional Certificate within two years of employment.
  • Selectee must attend and complete the Railroad Track Standards and Maintenance training program and maintain the CTI credential for the duration of their employment.
  • The position requires pre-employment physical examinations.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • You may be required to travel occasionally for this position.

Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
