About the Position: This position is located in the 407th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistic Readiness Center, Maintenance Division, Fort Cavazos, TX. This position is a Term position NTE 1 Year 1 Day. It is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of six years of total service without further competition.

Duties

Receive, examine and determine the condition and disposition of a wide variety of materials. Examine various items or equipment such as electronic systems, computer parts, combat vehicles and aircraft parts to determine condition and disposition. Interpret procedures, technical manuals, and equipment drawings to verify equipment classification. Ensure items containing hazardous materials/waste are handled/processed in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) standards and state and local operating guidelines. Operate a fork lift capable of lifting loads weighing up to 20,000 pounds to load, unload, and move material over various surfaces. Operate a flat bed or box truck up to 4.5 ton load capacity for the purpose of transporting supplies and equipment on and off the installation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. from the floor to a cart for transport, then put on a shelf or workbench.in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position meets the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain forklift training certification and license.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) training certification.

I have the ability to perform common material examining and identifying tasks. Receiving various types of materials, equipment, and components; determining the completeness and condition of items/materials; complying with established procedures to pack materials/items for shipment or storage. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.Dexterity and SafetyKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort: Work requires active physical effort, including extensive walking, bending stooping and pushing and pulling heavy material along conveyer lines. Continuously lifts and handles items weighing up to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 40 lbs. When operating forklift, must exert moderate physical effort in operating hand and foot controls and must endure strain caused by vibration of forklift. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in an environment involving everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, warehouses, open yards, or meeting rooms, observance of normal safety practices with moving forklifts, vehicles, office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations is required. Work is normally performed inside where conditions may be hot, dusty, cold, damp, and drafty. Work outside includes forklift operation to load and unload vehicles. Vehicle operation in all kinds of weather subjects incumbent to possible injury due to accidents. Subject to cuts, bruises, and abrasions due to handling the various items turned in as well as working close to moving equipment. Employee is expected to comply with all health and safety regulations, Standard operating procedures (SOP) and OSHA standards. Employees take all reasonable care to ensure their actions do not impact on the health and safety of themselves, other employees or visitors to the organization, and stop or report such infractions. Individuals shall comply with provisions of AR 385-10, Army Safety Program. Personnel shall wear all safety items required by OSHA and local SOP during the performance of tasks requiring protective equipment of clothing.
