About the Position: This position is located at Fort Hamilton in southern New York City, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, at the base of the world famous Verrazano Narrows Bridge. It is 20 minutes to mid-town Manhattan. Since Spring 1998, the Fort Hamilton Military Community has been home to the North Atlantic Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; New York City Recruiting Battalion; and New York Military Entrance Processing Station. Commuter buses and trains are readily accessible from this location.
Duties
Responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
Operate and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC/NCCIC) workstation terminals.
Interpret/decipher incoming messages, regulations and other directives using standard codes/abbreviations.
Screen all employees, visitors, consultants, and contractor personnel daily, exercising patience, discretion, and diplomacy to determine status of an individual and reason for and location of visit.
Deny access to unauthorized personnel or those who do not meet authorized entry criteria.
Control, prepare, issue identification badges, cards, and passes that allow access of civilian, military, contractor personnel, and visitors on to the installation.
Maintain a variety of files, access control registers, databases, and installation access denial approved packets, and records.
Operate and maintain various items of access control equipment and automated systems to include computer equipment used in the identification and registration process.
Provide authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures.
Accommodate visitors and direct them to proper areas or office throughout the installation, ensuring that required identification criteria and security protocols are met.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level clearance.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations to include overtime.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year specialized experience which includes: 1) Interacting with customers to exchange or obtain information; 2) Assisting with record keeping or routine filing of documents; and 3) Using automated software/systems to enter data and/or prepare reports, spreadsheets, memorandums and/or correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
