Joining Secret Service, Office of Strategic Planning and Policy will allow you to explore innovative ways to analyze and manage data. Your work will help modernize our approach to analytics, digitalization of records, and knowledge management, and will have an impact on our operational and business missions. It will allow you to conduct research into areas such as machine learning, the application of artificial intelligence to analyze data and identify records with enduring historical value.

The selectee will serve as Data Scientist in the Office of Strategic Planning and Policy. Typical work assignments include:

Qualifications

Basic Education Requirement: A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position.  In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must also meet the following minimum qualification requirements.  You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting salary $94,199) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level performing duties such as: assisting with developing tools and methods to extract, organize, integrate, interpret, and visualize data stored in data systems; conducting analysis using software and/or programming or statistical software tools; assisting with the automation of the collection and management of data and electronic records from varying sources and formats, including Cloud platforms such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and OneDrive; and performing data combing with data sets in preparation for analysis. You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $112,015) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing duties such as: developing tools and methods to extract, organize, integrate, interpret, and visualize data stored in data systems; analyzing and evaluating data science projects, models and operations; developing data analysis and storage routines to standardize and facilitate the management of electronic records in Cloud platforms such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and OneDrive; and using analytic and statistical software to programmatically prepare data for analysis. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement.Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
