As a Mechanical Experimental Equipment engineer with the Exploration and Systems and Operations Division, you will be responsible for mechanical engineering test and system development activities involving planning, developing, designing, testing, or evaluating mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, & structural equipment and systems. You will also be responsible for developing, fabricating, testing and use of handling and access equipment for flight hardware or components testing.

Duties

Utilizes an extensive knowledge of related engineering technology and Artemis launch vehicle to arrive at satisfactory solutions which affect other related projects and components. Responsible for utilizing various analysis methods in order to provide information to the Launch Director and other management personnel related to potential debris and vehicle conditions both pre and post launch. Resolves difficult problems generally unique or controversial in nature, requiring experienced professional aerospace engineering decisions and direct application of engineering judgment to achieve effective, timely results. Formulates plans for development or processing of future vehicle configurations, including forecasting upcoming opportunities, potential partnerships, planning of projects, and resource requirements for project formulation and proposal development. Oversees contracted work either externally or on-site in the facility of the contractor to verify work is performed to acceptable workmanship standards and per approved engineering drawings, designs, and accepted engineering practices. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Supporting processes that resolve deficiencies associated with space flight processing by understanding failure modes, trend analysis, configuration control and analysis associated with flight vehicles or flight hardware components; Supporting the creation of training plans, processes, and assisting with post flight analysis to ensure flight hardware and/or crew mission readiness; Providing support for specialized studies on flight vehicles or ground support equipment, which may include overall and individual major systems components, and additional equipment encompassed in the structure, to ensure their safety, suitability, and effectiveness in operation. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
