The incumbent is an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic assigned to the Operations & Maintenance Section, Facilities Management Service, of the Jack C Montgomery VA Medical Center, Muskogee, OK. The incumbent provides support maintenance and repair on all non-biomedical electronic systems and equipment, including, centralized environmental monitoring, control systems, and energy management systems for the Jack C Montgomery VA Medical Center and outlying Community-Based Outpatient Clinics
Duties
Major duties include but not limited to:
Supervision is general in the application as the incumbent works on their own with limited supervision during routine repair and installation work.
Responsible for applying sound judgment in decisions that contribute toward greater operating life and efficient operations.
The employee serves as an independent facility electronic specialist primary to energy management and HVAC computerized systems, including the Automated Building System.
The incumbent provides support maintenance and repair on all non-biomedical electronic systems and equipment.
The Incumbent may calibrate, program, reprogram and repair various circuit boards and electronic systems.
Performs preventive maintenance including the installation and calibrations of equipment while instructing operations on control systems.
Operates such electronic test equipment as multimeter's, volt/pressure calibrator, Magnehelic gauge, and flow hood. Reinstalls, tests, evaluates, calibrates, and maintains instruments or devices upon completion of repairs.
Repairs, calibrates, tests, and performs periodic maintenance of equipment, software, and controls.

The Incumbent installs and/or repairs ABS controls that are connected through customized interface devices to electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic controls of components which vary greatly in operating theories and tolerances because of differing age, purpose, and manufacturer's practices.

The mechanics at this level must keep abreast of technological changes in the occupation and provide technical guidance and assistance.
The incumbent is held accountable for the proper use and care of tools and materials which are assigned to this position.
They must know the characteristic voltage, current, and signal shape of the input and output of a wide variety of microprocessors, integrated and discrete solid-state circuits, and high-power vacuum tube or transistor applications.
The incumbent performs scheduled and unscheduled (emergency) service on electronic equipment, software, and associated networks to ensure it is working properly, calibrated properly, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standard.
Ability to develop schematics where none are available to troubleshoot systems and use handheld computers in the field to perform diagnostics and programming of EMCS control panels.
The Incumbent possesses the ability to understand and use various software packages for the operation and programming of systems, the ability to troubleshoot, perform diagnostics.
Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting, including diagnosis, testing, repairing, rebuilding, modifying, adjusting, and calibration of electronic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic industrial production equipment, such as electronic control boards, electrical drives, thermostatic controls, and other controls associated with the ABS System.
Incumbents must have a thorough knowledge of solid-state electronics in theory and practice and skills for applying such knowledge.
Operates system computers to include writing, installation, and backup of programs, history files, alarm data, and point status logs.
The Incumbent recommends and implements redesign, reconfiguration, or modification of operating procedures to reduce breakdowns or enhance accuracy and reliability.

Physical Requirements: Work requires good coordination and good physical and mental health. At times, the incumbent must remain working in cramped or awkward positions for varying periods. Occasionally, the incumbent must push or lift heavy pieces of equipment weighing up to 100 pounds and routinely must lift and push items weighing up to 50 pounds. Incumbents must have good vision and manual dexterity for accomplishing delicate work on miniaturized circuitry. Incumbents must not be color blind to allow for proper interpretation of important electronic color codes. The incumbent is required to climb ladders and do overhead work
Working Conditions: The incumbent must observe normal and some special safety precautions. The incumbent is in contact daily with electrical safety hazards resulting from work with voltage and found in communications equipment, power supplies, and in other such equipment. The incumbent is also frequently exposed to special mechanical system safety hazards in working with motor-driven systems. The working conditions are normally good in terms of lighting, space, and ventilation. Site work on equipment may be dirty, dusty, greasy, or contaminated, in cramped spaces and often from scaffolding. The work occasionally involves exposure to hazards such as radiation, sharp objects, hot objects, and infection. Work is performed inside and outside (heat, cold, under, and outside of buildings). Installation, inspections, and repairs are often made under dirty noisy conditions. There is frequent exposure to the danger of electrical shock, strains, cuts, bruises, burns and infections, and asbestos containment areas. Work may be performed outside in inclement weather or in areas that are very hot, cold, or unventilated: such as crawlspaces and mechanical rooms. Safety procedures must be followed, and appropriate protective safety gear must be worn, as required for the specific work area or task.
