This Fraud Detection and National Security position is embedded in the Refugee, Asylum and International Operations (RAIO) Directorate's Asylum office in Houston, TX.

Duties

The responsibilities described are for the full performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope performed with less independence, and limited complexity. Perform analysis on files, reports, and information systems and databases to update information and maintain data integrity. Support Immigration Officers and provide customer service that are applicable to DHS/USCIS laws and policies. Respond to inquiries, such as written correspondence, using various USCIS databases, electronic systems, and reports. Manage systems to ensure they are current, accurate, and ensure the processes are completed. Scan documents for storage or retrieval. Maintains compliance with established procedures for file management and appropriate search logs. Utilize various word processing advanced software functions (i.e. Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, power point, and Outlook).

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 10/20/2023. Time in Grade does not apply to Delegated Examining Announcements, any reference to Time in Grade in the questionnaire will not apply to the rating and ranking of applicants. As an Immigration Services Assistant, you will support the Adjudication Services Process by assisting Immigration Officers, providing security checks in accordance with DHS/USCIS laws and policies, research, collect, correlate and analyze data to ensure the integrity of information and prepare reports, provide direct service to customers and their representatives, and manage files, databases and correspondence. GS-05: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Performing complex office automation duties using word processing to edit and reformat lengthy correspondence and reports; Creating and maintaining spreadsheets and databases; Reviewing and verifying accuracy and completeness of submitted documents for benefits. OR You may substitute successful completion of 4 years above high school for the experience required at the GS-05 grade level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours. GS-06: You qualify at the GS-06 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Reviewing and screening applications for benefits to ensure validity of documentation submitted; Providing routine information and assistance on applications for benefits; Maintaining subject matter files, technical instructions, and/or operating procedures. GS-07: In addition to the requirements at the lower grade level(s), you qualify at the GS-07 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Reviewing and analyzing files and databases; Managing and analyzing written inquiries, requests, and final decisions according to agency procedures; Responding to inquiries by phone and/or in writing; Reviewing accuracy and completeness of submitted petitions and applications. The Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate (FDNS) was established within USCIS to strengthen national security and the integrity of the country's legal immigration system by closely aligning the adjudication of immigration benefits and services with the identification of potential threats to national security and/or public safety, the detection and deterrence of fraud, and the use of law enforcement and intelligence information to ensure optimal security for U.S. communities. FDNS systematically identifies updates, and records indicators of fraudulent activities; manages fraud cases; identifies vulnerabilities and other weaknesses that compromise the integrity of the legal immigration system; and coordinates and provides logistical support in law enforcement and national security matters. FDNS is the primary conduit for information sharing and collaboration with law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
