Duties
Serves as Chief, Geotechnical Engineering Branch.
Responsible for technical sufficiency, planning, and accomplishment of District needs for concrete and asphaltic concrete materials, geotechnical and geologic studies including field investigation and laboratory testing.
Management and implementation of the District Dam Safety Program, and management and implementation of the District Levee Safety Program, and for geotechnical and geologic services for the HTRW Program.
Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, schedules and reviews Branch functions. Supervises a workforce of approximately 50 or more full time professional, technical, and administrative positions assigned within five separate sections.
Through subordinate supervisors, directs and oversees the work of the Branch.
Personally performs work at the most critical and complex level involved in planning for and resolving problem matters within and outside Branch functional activities.

Basic Requirement Civil Engineer:

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes independently applying practical knowledge of geology and geotechnical engineering to design and construction projects (including experience with several of the following: subsurface investigations, materials testing, slope stability, seismicity, embankment engineering, dam and levee safety, and similar types of experience); supervising and providing technical leadership to a team. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you MUST meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Selective Placement Factor: This position requires the possession of a current Professional Engineer license or Registered Geologist, issued by any State in the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
