Duties
Plan work schedules and/or sequence of operations on a short- or long-range project by project basis, in order to assure an even flow and distribution of work, correct propriety, and the meeting of deadlines.
Maintain and retire medical records IAW applicable regulations, assuring records accessibility for five years and proper disposition thereafter.
Provide supervision over personnel work in medical records by scheduling and allocating work in accordance with job requirements and individual capabilities; providing advice, guidance and training; and resolving personnel related problems.
Process incoming requests for medical information and verify that proper authorization for release of medical information is included with the request
Perform quality assurance audits of outpatient records
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Medical Records Technician:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing medical record audits for inconsistencies and/or omissions and maintaining patient medical records in accordance with facility policy.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
